How to Unlock a Sprint BlackBerry

unlock-blackberry-tour

Today I received my Sprint BlackBerry Tour and it’s amazing. But, you’re not here for a review, you’re here because you want to unlock your Sprint BlackBerry Tour. Here’s what you do. Thanks to my friend at CIO.com, Al Sacco, I knew the steps to unlocking it.  Fortunately, the good folks at Sprint will walk you through the process as well.  Here’s what I did to unlock the SIM slot on the Sprint BlackBerry Tour.

  1. Call Sprint International Support – (817) 698-4199, prompt #2
  2. Ask them if they’d kindly unlock your SIM slot on your BlackBerry Tour
  3. Turn off your wireless network connection on the Tour (yes, you’ll have to call from another phone)
  4. Click on Options > Advanced Options > SIM Card
  5. Type MEPD
  6. Type MEP2
  7. The representative should give you a 16-digit code
  8. Thank the representative for their help
  9. Reboot your phone and you’re ready to go

There you have it!  It took me about 5 minutes to get my phone unlocked.  I tested my Sprint BlackBerry Tour with a T-Mobile SIM card and was able to access the web, use BlackBerry Messenger and send and receive messages.

  1. To Nan – Do I need to have an account with Sprint? Im not a client of Sprint but I have the Tour 9630 by Sprint like yours. Thank you so much.

  2. I literally found my Blackberry Tour 9630 last weekend. I have AT&T and well I tried this… but I dont have a Sprint account and they won’t unlock the fone for me unless I have an account with them 🙁 what should I do about that???

  3. how come when i called them they had said that my bb tour 9630
was already unlock i dont undestand where you guys are talking about

  4. You could have a friend activate it on their sprint account, call to unlock it, then have them switch back to their old phone. You then have an unlocked device.

  5. # Click on Options > Advanced Options > SIM Card
    # Type MEPD
    # Type MEP2 when i get to this step the does not give the enter code box why?

  8. These sprint people are complete idiots, it always takes twelve tries to get someone who has the brains to read the manual to help you do what needs to be done. This process is taking an hour and it’s still not fixed…… If you don’t know your product, I say don’t sell it to anyone!!

  9. So I can just call Sprint or take my old bb to a Sprint store and they can assist in unlocking the device? I have a bb curve 8330 I’m wanting to get unlock. Seems too easy.

  10. Nope! This will not work to unlock the CDMA side of a device. It’s only for those BlackBerry devices that have a sim on Sprint. Those models are the 8830/9630/9650. It will not work with your Curve.
